You are asked to draw a portrait. THE PORTRAIT
Take a soft pencil, grab a paper
Consider its basic measures and mentally draw the main proportions.
Set and ready, the portrait begins.
Look closely at the still person remaining to be observed. After an overview, decide where to start.
The left eye. Look at it closely. All of its folds, a spherical element partially covered by the skin...
Try to discover the reason of each fold, the direction of each mark, the depth of each wrinkle... Observe how it sets in a deeper plane than the rest of the face which, even it seems obvious to us now, we do not really realize about it on our daily routine.
Drive your attention carefully to each other element.
The right eye, the eyebrows, the nose, the mouth... nothing is equal, not even symmetrical.
Look down and draw shapes with your pencil, checking every trace... internalizing every gesture.
Human perfection is wonderful.
Each detail has been carefull thought out.
Discover then the beauty of every person who, for a moment -the time a portrait lasts- gives him/herself plenty so that a third person can analyze every detail and involuntarily reduce him/her while trying to reduce him into lines in a paper.
Details that evoke the inner life of the one portrayed, his feelings, emotions..
It may be true that the face is the expression of the soul, the heart is linked to the body and everything inside it is reflected with gestures and expressions...
Art and life merge.
In drawing up a portrait one does not understand art as an educational tool but rather as a means of expression and knowledge from which one tries to capture the beauty, a passion that gives strength to the world.
The eye of the artist looks for the hidden meaning in the eyes of what we see every day.
Masterpieces evoke experiences creating confusion between art and life itself.
We must always look as if it was the first time, but without ignoring eveything learned by experience through life.
Halfway between existence and truth.
